Hong Kong Interstellar Spider Programming Competition 2025-26 Concludes Successfully!

The "Hong Kong Interstellar Spider Programming Competition 2025-2026" concluded with great success on May 23rd! Organized by the Aerospace Education Schools Network and co-organized by Trumptech, the event aimed to guide students in combining mathematical logic, mechanical design, and advanced micro:bit programming skills. This year's competition brought together 29 elite teams from 14 schools, where participants unleashed their boundless imagination and engineering mindsets. They hands-on assembled unique "Interstellar Spiders" and programmed flexible limb controls and movement algorithms on-site to execute rescue missions across a complex simulated space terrain. Teams were also required to design their own "escape pods," navigating their robots through numerous obstacles under tight time constraints to send signals and safely evacuate stranded astronauts.

On the day of the competition, we were deeply honored to invite Principal Choi Sai Hung of CCC Heep Woh Primary School (Cheung Sha Wan) as our guest of honor to present the awards and cheer on the participating students. The "Hong Kong Interstellar Spider Programming Competition 2025-2026" was not only a test of technical skill, but also a true trial of teamwork and adaptability!

🚀 Mission Breakdown: Three Main Map Challenges

The themed arena map posed three major challenges where students had to combine robust mechanical structures with sound programming logic to guide their robots through danger!

Task 1 Arena Mission: Traversing the Interstellar Mountain Range

The "Interstellar Spider" was required to launch smoothly from the designated landing zone. Using custom code, students guided their models across rugged simulated mountain terrain to reach the coordinates of stranded astronauts. Next, they deployed handcrafted rescue pods to secure 2 astronauts onto the spider for evacuation. Seeing their models execute instructions perfectly brought out brilliant smiles and a immense sense of accomplishment!

Task 2 Arena Mission: Transmitting Signals to the Mothership

After rescuing the astronauts, the teams faced an imminent planetary explosion with severe magnetic interference weakening communication signals. To send a distress beacon to the mothership in outer space, the Interstellar Spider had to advance to designated coordinates. Students raced against the clock to construct and program a signal mast standing at least 40 cm tall, embarking on an intense interstellar rescue mission!

Task 3 Arena Mission: Entering the Extraction Zone and Evacuation

Once the signal was sent, the Interstellar Spider needed to transport the astronauts across the final boundary into the Pick-up Point, triggering the referee's timer for mothership retrieval. Teams had a 4-minute total time limit—the faster the arrival, the higher the score!
