The "Future Transportation AIoT Competition 2025-26" was successfully held on 30 May at Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. This year's competition attracted a total of 22 teams from primary and secondary divisions. Participating students demonstrated outstanding capabilities in applying Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) technology, teamwork, and innovative thinking across two competition sections: the "Thematic Task Challenge" and the "Solution Presentation".

The success of the competition would not have been possible without the generous support of our two partners – The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited and Transport Venture Limited. We were also honoured to have four industry experts serve as judges and award-presenting guests (in no particular order): Ms. Emily Cheung, Commercial Director of The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited; Mr. Jason Yuen, Director of Transport Venture Limited; Mr. Gash Tsui, Chief Information Officer of SOCIF Limited; and Mr. Masky Ng, Curriculum Director of Trumptech. The judging panel provided insightful advice to each team from an industrial perspective, greatly benefiting all participants.


In the "Thematic Task Challenge", teams were required to apply AIoT technology with their customised "on-demand bus" application built with App Inventor, to control a smart vehicle to pick up passengers according to demand. The competition also featured scenarios that simulated unpredictable factors in real-world environments, effectively testing the students' real-time adaptability and technical problem-solving skills.

In the subsequent "Solution Presentation" segment, the judging panel focused on the daily transportation pain points faced by Hong Kong citizens and potential future mobility challenges. The traffic scenario topics included: using AIoT to strengthen bus seatbelt usage monitoring and enforcement; applying AIoT for demand forecasting and real-time dispatch; and leveraging AIoT to improve travel information for the elderly and persons with disabilities. Participating teams were required to select one of these topics, design an innovative solution, and deliver a presentation followed by a Q&A session with the judges. Students utilised diverse formats such as slide presentations, physical models, and role-playing to propose practical and forward-looking AIoT solutions, earning unanimous praise from the judges.


Through their participation, students not only deepened their understanding of AIoT technology principles but also learned how to translate textbook knowledge into tools for solving real-world problems. From data collection and model training to solution design, participants experienced a complete technological problem-solving process. Moreover, teamwork and on-the-spot adaptability greatly enhanced alongside their communication skills and mental resilience. Many participating students expressed that the competition allowed them to see how technology can truly improve the daily travel of citizens, and inspired their aspirations to pursue careers in the field of smart transportation in the future.
